It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our most valued
and cherished volunteer and employee, Diane Sitko.
Diane headed up our Spay Michigan program and helped people throughout the State of Michigan find low cost spay/neuter resources close to their home. Diane is also the mother of our president, Amber Sitko. Diane was a positive and uplifting person to all who knew and worked with her.
You were always guaranteed a laugh or two courtesy of her wonderfully warm
sense of humor. She fostered many rescues over the years, demonstrating incredible compassion and kindness
for those pets considered "unadoptable"— finding them loving homes, or opening her
home for them to live out their days, even if it meant spending some days driving around her neighborhood
looking for those eager to scale the fence to explore the neighborhood on their own. Her pioneering spirit was evident throughout her career—she worked for twenty
years as one of the first female guards at Jackson Prison. Diane's absence will be felt by many of us but her spirit and dedication
have left an enduring mark on the mission of our rescue.
